I have a problem, actually, I have a lot of problems. After a misunderstanding with magical law enforcement, I find myself expelled from the Seattle Haven, the hidden supernatural community. My parole officer sends me to a small beach town with just my belongings and a warning that this is my last chance.

I don't think I belong in the human world, but when faced with the choice between a prison cell and a haunted halfway house, I choose the latter. Things start off better than I expected and I even make a few friends. But when my boss at the local coffee house is found dead in an alley, I get involved in the investigation and may have to reveal my true identity to prove my friend's innocence.

On top of that, I have a demanding ghost landlady, vampire and shifter roommates who are always at odds, and my savings are quickly running out. I'm starting to think I would have been better off serving a prison sentence.

But it's too late now. I'm in the middle of it all and I'll solve this murder no matter what, even if it means being permanently banned from the magical world.
