James Allen, the author of The Way of Peace, is best known for his work As a Man Thinketh. However, it is his lesser-known book The Way of Peace (1907) that more accurately reflects his affiliations with the New Thought Movement, referencing Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism. This book serves as a treatise on the importance of meditation as a pathway to divinity. Allen explains that whatever we meditate upon, we become. If we meditate on selfish and debasing thoughts, we will ultimately become selfish and debased. Conversely, if we meditate on pure and unselfish thoughts, we will become pure and unselfish.
The book is now in the public domain in the United States and most other countries, and has been released as a Project Gutenberg eText edition. It is divided into seven chapters: The Power Of Meditation; The Two Masters, Self and Truth; The Acquirement of Spiritual Power; The Realization of Selfless Love; Entering into the Infinite; Saints, Sages, and Saviors, The Law of Service; and The Realization of Perfect Peace. The first chapter also contains a poem, 'Star of Wisdom', which encapsulates the essence of the book.
